Solar Installation & Dedication
Options for Independent Living installation of solar panels was for 2 primary reasons.
- Decrease Options for Independent Living’s environmental “footprint”
- Cost savings measure for utility expenses.
There are so many people / businesses and community organizations that made this possible. This is a timeline of the activities and organizations involved.
Options Endowment Campaign contributors. A number of donations were specific to capital improvements. The primary donations for capital improvements were from:
- Schneider National Foundation
- Wells Fargo
- Wisconsin Public Service Foundation
The person behind the scenes who coordinated this project was Options Board President Kevin Pitts, from WPS. This was his idea and he did all the “legwork” and coordination of the entities involved.
Kevin arranged for Mike Troge, NWTC Photovoltaics Design & Site Survey Class to do a Site Assessment Report to determine feasibility and system type.
Eland Electric (Rick Eland, President) did all design and approvals of the system. This was a very extensive planning process.
Once we decided on a system, Focus on Energy reviewed our application to approve the financial assistance package (70% of install cost).
Rick Eland enlisted the assistance of the IBEW Local 158 (International Brotherhood of Electrical Works – Dave Jungbluth) to assist with the installation process. This contribution totaled 152 hours of labor. This was for two purposes.
- Volunteer labor to assist with installation.
- Teaching with “hands on experience” the solar Photovoltaics install process.
As with the funding and building of the David L Hall Showcase Model Home & Office Complex, the people and businesses in this community made this happen. This facility and the solar installation has truly been a COMMUNITY PROJECT. On behalf of the Board of Directors of Options for Independent Living, thank you to all involved.
